Left glute larger than right: how can you correct it?
👉🏼 One side of the body is more developed in the vast majority of people, and that’s completely normal! This becomes more noticeable when someone has an accident and needs to wear a cast for a while, since they tend to move that area very little or not at all.
As a result, the muscles in that limb shrink or atrophy simply from lack of use.
For right-handed people, the right side is more developed, just as the left side is more developed for left-handed people. Some people develop asymmetry by applying more force on one side during strength training.
When there’s a dominant side, that side is conditioned to exert more force, especially because it’s more developed and can handle heavier loads.
How to correct muscle asymmetry
To correct muscle asymmetry, in most cases, you can choose exercises that help bring both sides into better proportion. Exercises that work each side individually (unilateral exercises) help ensure that the less developed side gets worked more intensely.
The recommendation is to do unilateral workouts with equal volume on both sides (the same weight and number of repetitions), starting with the less developed side.
The goal is to make the relative intensity higher for the “weaker” side, leading to more adaptations. Using dumbbells is recommended, especially when there are differences between the upper limbs.
Asymmetry in the lower limbs
⚡️ When it comes to possible asymmetries in the lower limbs, instead of working both legs on the leg extension machine and leg press, choose to exercise each leg individually. This way, you won’t overload one side of your body during the exercise.
Do the same number of repetitions with the same weight, but exercise each leg one at a time. It will take longer, but you’ll get much better results when it comes to achieving symmetry!
It’s worth remembering that some morphological features can’t be changed… like uneven abdominal muscles or one shoulder that sticks out more… That’s just life..lol
Focus on strength training to correct muscle asymmetry
One of the main concerns for women embarking on a strength training journey is muscle hypertrophy. And having a symmetrical body is a priority.
Many people who do strength training are under the sweet illusion that gaining lean muscle mass is a simple, short-term process…
The truth is that this process takes time and depends on many variables, such as diet, exercise intensity, adequate rest, and even the use of supplements if needed.
Muscle hypertrophy is characterized by an increase in size. This is the body’s natural response to intense, properly applied exercise!
Women’s bodies are very different from men’s, so the process of hypertrophy is unique for women.

It’s important to let your muscles rest so you can achieve the desired hypertrophy effect. So, if today’s workout targets your upper body, it’s recommended that tomorrow’s workout target your lower body, or that you take a full rest day, so your muscles can recover, prevent injuries and overloading, and correct the asymmetry.
Is your left glute larger than your right one? Know that it’s entirely possible to change that.
