About training to failure
But you may be wondering
Wait… but isn’t there a prescribed number of repetitions… 8… 10… 12??? Well… Adjust the weight so that you FAIL within the predetermined number of repetitions prescribed in your workout. For example: if it’s 8 reps… try to fail on the seventh or eighth rep… if you fail on the ninth or tenth, increase the weight… if you fail on the fifth or sixth rep… decrease the weight.
You’ll rarely find the right weight on your first attempt when doing a workout for the first time… but little by little, you’ll get it all adjusted!
Tip
If you’re not used to using a controlled tempo and a full range of motion… you should readjust the weight… lower it… until you adapt… remembering that, as I keep insisting, weight is the last “detail.” Prioritize your form, tempo, range of motion, and appropriate rest periods… and finally, the weight!
How to train to failure?
About training to failure… as long as you’re not a beginner or returning after a long period of inactivity, you should reach failure on every exercise in your workout. But you may be wondering: Wait… but doesn’t it say the number of repetitions… 8… 10… 12??? Well… Adjust the weight so that you can FAIL within the predetermined number of repetitions.

For example: if it says 8 repetitions… try to fail on the seventh or eighth rep… if you fail on the ninth or tenth, increase the weight… if you fail on the fifth or sixth rep… decrease the weight, okay 😉 You’ll rarely find the right weight on your first attempt when doing a workout for the first time… but little by little, you’ll get it all adjusted!
