Can I alternate multi-joint and single-joint exercises?
The pre-exhaustion method consists of first performing a single-joint exercise and then, without resting, performing a multi-joint exercise.
.
💪🏼The main goal of this method is to increase the intensity on the target muscle without tiring out the synergist muscles! For example: Performing leg extensions and then leg presses is a good example of pre-exhaustion: first, you perform a movement intended to isolate the quadriceps, and then a multi-joint exercise to fatigue the target muscle group more.
Training method
💥As with any method, there are also a few things to consider before using pre-exhaustion:
1️⃣It is not recommended for beginners, as they may not be prepared for such a high level of intensity and could even injure themselves.
.
2️⃣It’s not exactly a disadvantage… but advanced techniques should not be used for long periods without breaks. This applies to rest-pause, drop sets, and similar techniques that cause significant fatigue. Their use should be carefully planned by a qualified professional, as there is a risk of overtraining, which can hinder your muscle recovery.
.
And you❓ Do you use any intensity techniques in your single-joint exercise workouts?
Compound exercises
Like compound exercises, single-joint exercises are very important for a good strength-training workout.
It’s important to strike the right balance in your plan so that you don’t leave any of them out and can achieve great results.

Single-joint exercises are useful when you return to physical training after a long break.
Single-joint exercises are the foundation of many workouts, but when it comes to building muscle, many would say they aren’t the best choice for increasing muscle mass… But single-joint exercises also have their advantages!
They can help you strengthen a part of your body that may have been weakened by an illness, surgery, or injury.
