Skinny: slow or fast weight training?
🏋🏼♂️Lifting the weight quickly and lowering it slowly… that’s something you hear often. Is it wrong for someone who’s skinny? 🏋🏼♂️
💥No. But you shouldn’t—and don’t need to—do this all the time! Manipulating speed (the tempo I talk about so often here) is one of the variables you should use to alternate stimuli within a periodized program.
In other words, emphasizing only the eccentric phase won’t lead to additional muscle gains for the trainee. Make sure to emphasize the eccentric phase too.
To recap
Concentric phase (also called the positive phase) – This is the muscle contraction phase, when the weight is lifted or pulled—in other words, when the muscle contraction overcomes the resistance of the weight.
In a squat, the concentric phase occurs as you stand up. This is the phase in which you encounter the most resistance while performing the movement.
💥Eccentric phase (also called the negative phase) – This is the opposite movement of the concentric phase. During the eccentric phase, the weight overcomes the muscular resistance. This is when we “lower” the weight; in a squat, for example, your butt moves closer to the floor.
Know your current tempo
💥More important than knowing this is knowing the current tempo of your workout and changing it periodically… How? By seeking proper guidance from your trainer 👍🏼
Mistakes that keep you from gaining lean muscle
Women are increasingly taking over gyms across our country, and that’s incredible!
With more and more women entering the fitness world, we’ve come to realize that each gender has its own, let’s say… peculiar mistakes at the gym.
One of the most common mistakes men make is overdoing the weight or the duration of their workouts. Women make this mistake too, but it’s far from the most common one.

Women, even if they’re skinny, have great potential in their workouts. Everyone, regardless of age, genetics, height, or level of knowledge… just avoid these common mistakes in women’s training.
It’s important to get the support you need to get started and keep reaching your goals.
