Can the gym serve as therapy?
🏋🏼♂️Raise your hand if you’ve worked out or are still planning to work out today❗️
Beyond a defined abdomen and physical and mental well-being, here’s the most curious and interesting benefit of exercising: the production of ENDORPHINS, neurotransmitters used by neurons to communicate within the nervous system. Or, as I like to call them: the hormones of PLEASURE.
What are endorphins?
Endorphins are substances produced by our brains during and after physical activity. They regulate emotions and the perception of pain, helping us relax and creating feelings of well-being and pleasure. Their name comes from the words “endo” and “morphine,” which respectively mean internal and painkiller.
Physical and mental well-being
There are many benefits! You improve your physical fitness and your mental well-being. When we feel good about our bodies, we work better, have better relationships, travel better, have more energy to face everyday life, and get sick less often.
The gym is therapy for many people
You won’t always feel like working out, but if nothing is really wrong, you may need to do it anyway. Exercising when you don’t feel like it helps build inner strength, and afterward, you’ll also feel the benefits of a boost in positive endorphins.
Remember, there will always be days when you don’t feel like working out. The key is knowing what to do on those days. Listen to your body: know when it’s time to take a step back and relax, know when it’s time to play or change your routine, and know when it’s time to do the planned workout anyway.
